Touch Typing for Beginners: Home Row Lessons & Tips
Touch typing means typing without looking at the keys. It is the base of fast, accurate typing on any keyboard.
Start with the home row
Rest your left fingers on A S D F and your right fingers on J K L and the semicolon key. Most keyboards have small bumps on F and J to help you find the position.
Sit well
Keep your back straight, feet flat and wrists relaxed. Look at the screen, not at your hands.
Follow a simple plan
Learn the home row, then the top row, then the bottom row, then numbers and capital letters. Our Lessons mode follows this order in ten stages.
Phone users
On a phone you type with thumbs, but touch typing lessons still build speed, rhythm and spelling accuracy. A Bluetooth keyboard is a good upgrade if you type a lot.
